SMART MATERIALS 3D joins the FAUNO project as a leader, a cutting-edge project in the aeronautical industry that seeks to transform the manufacturing of composite materials. The main objective of FAUNO is to develop a new generation of multifunctional molds and tooling using Multimaterial Additive Manufacturing (AF) technology.

This project aims to improve efficiency and sustainability in the production of composite materials, especially out-of-autoclave (OoA). These processes reduce resource consumption and increase productivity by using techniques such as Liquid Resin Infusion (LRI) to obtain molded parts with excellent mechanical properties.

The FAUNO project involves leading companies in digital design, mold manufacturing, part manufacturing processes and materials development. Among them are INESPASASMART MATERIALS 3DNEXUS PROJECTES and IDAERO, as well as the collaboration of leading international research centers in the area of Materials and Manufacturing Processes, such as AIMEN and IMDEA Materials.

With these advances, FAUNO is contributing to the development of technologies for Intelligent and Advanced Manufacturing in the aerospace industry. These developments are expected not only to improve efficiency in the production of composite materials, but also to boost sustainability in this crucial sector.

FAUNO addresses several challenges in composite materials manufacturing, including the search for new multifunctional materials, design optimization and the production of molds by additive manufacturing. SMART MATERIALS 3D is working in the project on the development of a new range of high performance functional TP materials for additive manufacturing, in close collaboration with the developments of the IMDEA Materials and AIMEN Technology Centers and the other entities.

At SMART MATERIALS 3D we are excited to be involved in projects that are revolutionizing composite manufacturing in the aeronautics industry and we continue to advance in the innovation of Industry 4.0!

FAUNO is a Project subsidized by CDTI and supported by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, in the Aeronautical Technology Program, of the State Program to Catalyze Innovation and Business Leadership of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2021-2023, in the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which receives Next Generation EU funds, among them, the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.
